Learn more about how Shipwell combines automated technology and customer service to deliver world-class service.
We love talking about our engineering team, so we wanted to continue on with our Know Your Pro series and feature Morgan Kilgore, one of our amazing Backend Engineers.
Are you an engineer? Good news, we are hiring!
What does a typical work day look like for you?
My day generally starts off with a nice walk to work. As soon as I get in, I review my to-do list and figure out my priorities for the day. Then at 10, we have our standup in which the engineering team says what they did yesterday and what they plan on doing today. After that, I usually don’t have any more meetings, so the rest of the day is made up of fixing bugs or developing a new feature, problem solving, and reviewing others code.
What is a problem in freight automation that you are excited about solving?
I’m excited to be a part of a company that is committed to modernizing the freight industry to bring better solutions for supply chains.
What is your favorite part of the job?
I enjoy the fast-paced environment as well as being able to use current technology to either solve new problems or improve upon existing problems within the freight industry.
Where do you get your ideas for the Hackathons?
A majority of my ideas actually originate from Shipwell! We have an internal tracker that is centralized for the Shipwell team to notate new feature ideas, to support the continuing innovation of our platform. Prior to each Hackathon, I select an interesting idea from our tracker that I know will drive impact for our customers.
What do you listen to while you are coding?
I typically listen to R&B music while coding. This usually keeps me pretty relaxed and calm.
What does a typical weekend look like for you?
A typical weekend involves playing/watching soccer or basketball, hanging out with friends and family, and playing a few video games if I get a chance.
What fictional character best describes you? Why?
I would say Miranda Bailey from “Grey’s Anatomy” — she’s strong and pretty straightforward.
Morgan is a valuable member of our engineering team and company overall. We can’t wait to see all the problems she solves in the future.
Want to be on Morgan’s team? You can! Shipwell is hiring Backend Engineers of all levels along with several other engineering positions. Check out our careers page to see if there is a job for you.
