Shipwell is a connected platform to bring shippers, 3PLs, and carriers together to make freight shipping more transparent.
But how do we actually “connect” these companies? One way is through ELD integrations from carriers to provide shipment visibility for shippers and 3PLs.
This week in our Know Your Pro series, we wanted to talk about your ELD and SaaS team to show you the scope of Shipwell’s connectivity.
Today, we have Tanner Judah, or “Judah” as he is known around the office. He is one of the original ELD Sales Representatives at Shipwell.
We asked him a few questions about his role at Shipwell and in the freight industry.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
My typical day encompasses many resilient conversations with dispatchers, safety officers, and operation managers about integrating their ELD software with Shipwell’s TMS platform.
Integrating their ELD software with our platform helps automate the freight booking process and provides visibility for our carrier reps and customers.
Why is ELD integration such an important part of Shipwell?
ELD integration is one of our platform’s key factors regarding visibility and automation.
First, an ELD is an electronic logging device that monitors a driver’s hours of service, miles, engine data, and location.
When the Shipwell platform has this information, we are able to create a better load matching system by pushing a carrier freight using a truck’s location that is in proximity to one of our loads, and also by tracking our shipments in real time from pick-up to delivery.
Here’s an example:
Before ELD integration was a possibility, Jim, a shipper or 3PL employee, might have had to recover a load from Ky. > Tenn. because the drivers truck broke down, Jim would have to call up every carrier that lives near the pick-up city to see if they are available to take the shipment. Jim doesn’t know if any of these companies have the available hours to take the load or if they have drivers near the load. This could take a bit of time.
But when carriers are ELD integrated with our platform, Jim is able to click on the city where the load is at and select “find a carrier near this load <30 miles”. Then 5-10 trucks might pop up in that area and our software will tell us if they’re a good match for the load based on their available hours. This saves Jim a lot of time.
Lastly, we are able to track the shipment in real-time when a carrier provides us with the driver’s power unit number.
Tracking in real time helps Jim know where the truck is when “in-transit”. This helps reduce check calls with the drivers and dispatchers.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is coming in every Monday and seeing how much the company has grown.
Every week we grow and something new is coming that we are rolling out. The SaaS department is growing at a consistent rate and there are always new hurdles to overcome in the freight industry.
What is Shipwell doing that is changing how people ship products?
Shipwell is changing the way people ship products by providing excellent customer service, visibility, and automation in an all-in-one transportation management system that enables customers to transport freight of all sizes using one integrated software platform.
What’s your favorite kind of music? Favorite bands?
My favorite kind of music is indie rock with a mix of blues.
Right now a favorite band of mine is Tame Impala and can’t wait to see them ACL in October.
What does a typical weekend look like for you?
Depends where I’m at and what season it is. But generally speaking, I eat sushi anywhere and anytime.
If no sushi is involved, I like to get out on the hiking trail or chill on the lake with good friends. Then, an evening jam session with my sunburst Stratocaster.
I will be doing all of these activities while avoiding each and every IPA ever made.
What character from any movie or TV show best describes you? Why?
I would have to describe myself as a hybrid between Andy Dwyer and Ron Swanson from “Parks and Rec.” If you ask why, you’ll just have to invite me on a fishing trip or your annual Halloween party.
Judah’s work ethic has transformed Shipwell’s place in the freight world by adding a record number of carriers to the platform. His role at the company allows us to connect the fragmented pieces of the supply chain, making it easier for logistics professionals to run their business.
If you want to work with people like Judah, you can! Shipwell is hiring for several positions.
