How carriers can maintain their equipment

Here at Shipwell, we spend our days talking with truckers and hearing their challenges with their lives on the road.

We take pride in building a product and service that is committed to helping carriers make more money and have an easier time getting the loads they want.

However, we know that scheduled maintenance is a part of the job and forces truckers to go offline to tend to their equipment. Fortunately, Shipwell has solutions to optimize your time on the road and prevent long shutdowns and keep your business running.

Minimize idling

Speaking of, the best way to make money in the freight industry is to keep trucks on the road. This might sound counterintuitive to maintenance, but idling your truck for hours does unnecessary wear on your tractor. The American Trucking Association says one hour of idling per day for a year is the equivalent of 64,000 miles in engine wear.

Shipwell helps trucks stay out of detention at terminals with the upcoming dock scheduling feature. Instead of showing up to a terminal and waiting to get loaded or unloaded, truckers get the benefit of reduced wait times and a dock ready for them to roll up right on schedule.

Take loads that are easy on your trailer

Shippers want to move the most product in the fewest amount of trucks to save money and time. Most trailers (especially in FTL shipments) are loaded to their maximum and test the limits of axle weight.

Of course, getting these loads are great. That's why carriers signed up! But, changing up the loads now and then can be a good thing.

The Shipwell platform provides detailed information on each shipment so that carriers can know freight class, dimensions, and other factors that can help with trailer maintenance.

Route optimization (getting lanes you want)

Some carriers like to have a routine run that they can plan on booking regularly. Optimizing their routes and getting the lanes that they want can help carriers better monitor truck performance and prepare for scheduled maintenance.

Shipwell's Managed Services team can help with that! Our freight logistics professionals build working relationships with our carriers to work in lane preferences for loads. When your ELD is connected with Shipwell, we can also provide analytics regarding your routes to help drivers understand and adjust habits and routing to get more miles out of their equipment.

Added to that, let us help you reduce deadheads by matching loads that best fit the routes you want to do, including backhaul.

Take care of yourself!

Truckers can't forget about the most critical equipment they have while on the road: their bodies!

Keeping a regular fitness schedule can be difficult when you are in a new location every day. But, truckers who take their 30-minute rest breaks to get a little cardio in can improve their overall health. From breathing better to having a quicker reaction time, exercising can benefit truckers the most.

Make sure you stop at trucks stops that have fitness centers to get the most out of your rest stops!
