Connectivity: How ELDs shed light on supply chains

Shipwell commits to building a network of carriers who offer full visibility on shipments with up-to-the-minute information.

One of the ways we do that is by working with carriers to keep them connected in any way possible. Some prefer phone calls and others a mobile app with tracking enabled.

However, there is an easier way for drivers to deliver accurate information all without needing to do a thing. Shipwell connects to the Electronic Logging Devices, or ELDs, in carriers' trucks to provide tracking and visibility to 3PLs and shippers. This allows us to not have to use check calls or other forms of updates from the driver.

The importance of carrier success

At Shipwell, our Carrier Success Team works to ensure our carriers have a great experience with our platform and services.

One of the biggest things we try to push is connecting ELDs to our platform. This way, we are able to leave the driver to do their jobs while we access tracking data effortlessly.

Learn more about ELDs

Our Carrier Success Team has successfully connected nearly 20,000 ELDs since the launch of the team, and that number grows significantly each week.

ELD connectivity is more important than ever. With the official mandate for ELD compliance rolling out December 16th so that all carriers, including those with AOBRDs (Automatic On-Board Recording Device).

While most carriers have switched since the initial mandate last year, those with AOBRDs were given an additional year to switch to the industry standard of ELD tracking and performance monitoring.

The power of visibility

As we have said before, tracking shipments is no longer a special feature, but rather a requirement for the industry. With all of the technology that we have in the world, it makes total sense to be able to track and trace your products as they are in transit to the cosign.

Shipwell builds our technology around our vision of connecting and automating a heavily fragmented and antiquated industry. Not only do we provide visibility into the actual shipment, but we also have a platform that shows users shipment details like pickup and drop off time as well as financial information for accounting departments to manage the books.

As the industry shifts more technology-forward, it is best for shippers, 3PLs, and carriers to take on an app that they love.

Don't change, adapt

We don't want those in the supply chain to completely change the things that are working in their workflows. Why would we? If it isn't broke, don't fix it. However, adding tools to your arsenal that can make the things that are working work a lot faster is better for everyone. Shipwell integrates into existing workflows so every company doesn't have to redo all the hard work they have put in over the years.

Is your company ready for more visibility into the supply chain? Shipwell is the tool designed to offer tracking, managing, and insights to customers all in a single pane of glass.
